The slow but accelerating death of department stores. BBC here. Some of these stores were used as cash generators by their owners. They borrowed against the value of the store, took cash out and failed to invest. Customers were taken for granted. They failed to change the nature of their retail offering for a new era and a new retail environment. They deserve to go under.

Fundamentalist Brexiteers presenting 'English' hampers as gifts. BBC here.
Laughably out-of-touch. How many young people (they are the future after all) would get excited by this collection?
Ridiculous.

So, the vegetarian who occasionally eats meat is a thing. There's a word for it: flexitarian. Wikipedia here.
Came across it in BBC article about Tesco's new vegan ready-meal range. Eating habits are moving towards vegeism of some sort - and business is noticing. If flexitarian has a place on the vegi-spectrum then there's room for me too.

On 'Divorce Day', the fist working Monday of the new year, we learn that money worries are the main reason for marital break-up. One in ten marriages disintegrate because there isn't enough resources to keep things together. Painful.
